Coca-Cola

Coca-Cola

Coca-Cola is one of the most popular soft drinks in the world. It was first made by Dr. John Pemberton in Atlanta, America in 1886. Dr. Pemberton was not a real doctor, but he sold syrup to the people who were ill. At first, he made his Coca-Cola drink with syrup and soda water. Then he gave it to his friends to try. They like it but asked him to make it even better.

To improve his drink, he decided to add coca leaves, cola nuts and some other things that he kept in secret. Meanwhile, 99% of it was still sugar and soda water. He called his new drink “Coca Cola.” However, it did not sell well at first, so he sold his secret, and he died two years later.

In 1892, Asa Candler bought the secret and started the Coca-Cola Company. At that time, people had to drink the soft drink in the shops. When Coca-Cola became very popular, people wanted to take bottles of it home, so Mr. Candler agreed to sell it in bottles.

In 1919, Mr. Candler sold his part of the company for US $ 25 million. Today, Coca-Cola Company is one of the largest companies in America, and people can buy Coca-Cola in many countries. It is still the same drink that at Dr. Pemberton made in 1886.
